My initial reaction upon ordering the
Oxo 1130800 Good Grips Food Scale with Pull-Out Display was that I may have just wasted money on a few extra features that I’m never going to use. Fortunately, I was wrong! While this scale is a tad more expensive than other models, I think it more than makes up for it (it’s not especially expensive anyway.)
First of all, it just looks cool. It’s a nice, sleek looking design with a metal surface that also makes it a cinch to clean. It’s incredibly user friendly and intuitive and is the most accurate scale that I’ve ever owned. It has all the basic features that any good scale will have, but there are also a couple of additional things about the Oxo in particular that I think are worth pointing out.
Firstly, you are able to pull the display screen out, allowing you to still view the screen when you place a larger bowl or plate on the scale. I initially thought I’d never use this feature but it really does come in handy. I recall a number of times being frustrated with other scales because the bowl or plate I was using covered up the screen. With this Oxo, it’s no longer a problem!
The screen also has a backlight should you need it. Again, I thought I wouldn’t benefit from this but I was wrong, I use it quite a lot. Also, it has a sleep mode after 3 minutes of not being used which isn’t so unusual, but the difference with this Oxo over many other models is that it retains the measurements you had before it shut down. That way, you don’t lose what you were working on if it shuts down before you’re ready.
The Oxo 1130800 also uses regular AAA batteries which I think is a huge plus. So many other models use these unusual, expensive batteries that can be real hassle to replace.

Overall, while the Oxo 1130800 is a tad more expensive than many other scales, I definitely think it’s worth it for just those few additional features. Overall, it’s an excellent product and if I needed to replace it for any reason, I wouldn’t hesitate to get the same model again.

I have to say, the
KINTREX Digital Tempered Glass Kitchen Scale has got to be one of the sleekest looking devices ever. It’s almost a shame it’s only a kitchen scale. My initial impressions were very good. A side from it looking cool, it has a nice solid, quality feel to it. This was actually better than I was expecting considering it’s a very reasonable price. It has a nice glass top obviously
without any crevices which is great for cleaning. I can’t stand it when you get ingredients dropping in between the gaps of a piece of equipment, but that’s not an issue with the KINTREX.
It has a very large, clear screen that can display in decimals, and is very easy to use. It has all the basic features you’d expect from a good set of scales, and is definitely the most accurate one I’ve ever come across. Very happy on that front. I also like the fact that it can be stored vertically on a bookshelf or something. That’s what I do. I think it does say in the instruction manual that you’re supposed to store it horizontally but in the 12+ months of storing it this way I haven’t experienced any problems.
One thing that has put me off the KINTREX slightly is it’s choice of batteries. It uses two CR2032 Lithium batteries which aren’t the most regular sort of battery. It’s not a massive issue I guess but it would have been better if they were just regular AA’s or AAA’s. Also, it does have quite a short auto turn off time at about 1 minute. Most models turn off at around 3 or 4 minutes so it’s significantly less. It’s not a deal breaker, but would definitely be something I’d tell KINTREX to improve!

Overall, I’m very happy with this KINTREX scale. I always go for functionality over appearance, but is it too much to ask for both? I think KINTREX has achieved that. On the whole, an excellent addition to your kitchen and highly recommended.

When I went searching for a new set of kitchen scales, I pretty much had it fixed in my mind what I was after. I wasn’t fussed about all the fancy features and gimmicks that so many models promise, I just wanted some scales that were easy to use, had the basic features, and that worked. After a little bit of shopping around, I settled on the
EatSmart Precision Pro – Multifunction Digital Kitchen Scale.
As for first impressions, the unit is very light and I initially thought it felt a bit cheap, although saying that, it is very inexpensive so it didn’t really put me off. It’s a nice size and design, so it looks pretty good as far as scales go.
One reason why I got this particular kitchen scale was that it takes regular AAA batteries, not those unusual, expensive ones that are a hassle to replace. So far I’m happy with how they are performing and I‘m still on the original ones after about 7 months of use. It has a 3 Minute Auto-Shutoff feature which is good for preserving the battery life and you can also manually turn it off.
Overall, it’s incredibly easy to use. It has a very large, easy to read screen and two simple buttons. It’s all very intuitive. It just flat out works and does what it’s designed to do.
A side from the auto shut-off, the only other feature which I think is worthwhile on a set of scales and that the EatSmart has, is a tare feature to eliminate the weight of the plate or bowl. So that’s useful. It displays ounces, lbs, grams and kgs so you have a choice, and precision down to 1 gram. So all the basic stuff that you‘d want in set of scales.
As for downsides, it’s hard to really pick a fault but if I’m being very picky, then I would point out that there’s a slight gap between the two buttons where food and stuff could get caught. You can get around this by placing the scales in a clear plastic bag but it’s not really a major problem.

Overall, the EatSmart Precision Pro is basically just a good, easy to use, simple kitchen scale with all the features you’ll ever need. It does exactly what you want a set of scales to do for a price that you can’t beat. Forget all the fancy scales with their endless list of capabilities that you’ll never use, this one works well enough!

There are so many different models of scales these days with an endless list of “clever” features and capabilities, and being sold for ridiculously high prices. It’s a scale for goodness sake! All you need is something that does the basic stuff, is easy to use and just generally works. After searching around for something that would fit this criteria (not as easy as I’d hoped) I settled on the
Escali Primo Digital Multifunctional Scale.
The verdict? It’s perfect! It’s just what I’d been looking for. It was very inexpensive for starters. I think this is perhaps reflected in the general feel of the device but as long as it does what it’s designed to do then I’m happy. And it does, very well in fact.
It’s generally just very easy, clear and intuitive to use. There are no unnecessary gimmicks: it does all that you want a set of scales to do. It has 2 – button programming and an effective tare feature. And other than that, some of the features worth noting that make this stand out for me over similar products are firstly, it has a four minute auto-off feature to preserve the battery life. This is a perfect time I think as anything less can often cut you off while you’re still using the thing.
Secondly, it has a “spill proof, quick clean” body which makes keeping it clean nice and easy. Often you’ll find if a set of scales has a gap in between the buttons or somewhere, you’ll get food and stuff falling into the cracks. So that problem is avoided with the Escali Primo! Lastly, it works with negative measurements. A surprising number of models don’t have this but it’s nice to have. And I think these are really all the main features you’ll ever need. Actually, another thing I really like about this Escali is that it uses regular AA batteries. What’s with all these other models using the most obscure and expensive batteries imaginable?
As for a downside, I have found that when using a larger plate or bowl on the scale, it can block the display screen slightly and make it hard to read. This isn’t a massive turn off but it’s something to bare in mind.

As you can see, I’m pretty happy with the Escali Primo. It’s just a good set of scales that does what you want it to do – nothing more, nothing less. Don’t be tempted by gimmicks, you’ll regret it. This is the scale you want.
